Bengaluru: In a major setback to the struggle for separate religion tag for Lingayat community it, in a personal meeting with Shrishailapeet Jagadguru Panditharadhya Swamiji, Siddaganga seer Dr. Shivakumara Swamiji has expressed displeasure regarding the whole movement itself.
Shrishaila Jagadguru Panditharadhya Swamiji visited the Siddaganga Matt on Thursday and spoke with Dr. Shivakumara Swamiji for few minutes. Speaking to the media, the Shrishaila Peet seer said that the senior seer was unhappy about the concept itself.
According to the Panditharadhya Swamiji, the senior seer said that ‘Veerashaiva’ is a bookish word and ‘Lingayat’ is a countrified word. In fact, both are same. The opinion of the Dr.Shivakumara Swamiji, who is also called as ‘walking God’ has great value in the community. With one of the most revered Swamijis taking a stand against the demand, one may have to wait and watch what course the struggle for religious tag will take in future.
