A 58-year-old woman lost her life in a tragic accident after falling from the terrace of her house while attempting to cut tree branches that had been extending over her property for some time.

The deceased, identified as Pramila Bai, was a resident of Prakash Nagar in Rajajinagar. The incident occurred on June 18 when she climbed to the terrace of her two-storey house to trim branches from a nearby tree.

According to family members, the branches had been causing inconvenience, and repeated requests had allegedly been made to the authorities concerned to prune them.

Fall from terrace proves fatal

Pramila reportedly went to the terrace around 5 pm to cut the overhanging branches herself after becoming frustrated by the lack of action.

While carrying out the task, she is believed to have lost her balance near the edge of the roof. Her husband said she accidentally stepped onto an asphalt sheet covering a room below, causing it to give way.

She fell from the terrace and suffered severe injuries. Despite efforts to help her, she died at the spot.

Family cites repeated requests

Family members claimed that they had approached authorities several times seeking the trimming of the tree branches but received no response.

According to her husband, the branches had continued to grow over the house, prompting Pramila to take matters into her own hands.

The incident has drawn attention to the risks residents face when attempting maintenance work without proper safety measures or equipment.

Police begin investigation

Rajajinagar police have registered an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) and launched an investigation into the incident.

Police said the woman’s son has filed a complaint but has not levelled any allegations against officials or any individual.

During their inspection of the house, investigators found that the terrace did not have a parapet wall, a safety feature that could have helped prevent such accidents.

Officials said further inquiries are underway to ascertain all circumstances surrounding the incident.
