Bengaluru: A 35-year-old woman and her four-year-old child were safely rescued by Bengaluru Police after she allegedly threatened to jump from the fifth floor of a building in BTM Layout, officials said.
The incident occurred on July 5 near Maruthi Dental College in BTM Layout 2nd Stage, where a passerby noticed the woman sitting on the edge of the fifth floor with her child.
Passerby alerted police through 112
According to police, the woman allegedly insisted that she would jump unless the Chief Ministers of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu came to the spot and spoke to her.
Concerned by the situation, the passerby immediately alerted the police by dialling the emergency helpline 112.
Responding swiftly, Hoysala patrol personnel and the Hulimavu police inspector rushed to the location. Senior officers were informed, and a rescue operation was launched.
Police convinced woman to abandon attempt
Police personnel engaged the woman in conversation, patiently counselling and reassuring her in an effort to de-escalate the situation. After prolonged persuasion, they successfully convinced her to step away from the edge and ensured the safety of both her and the child.
The woman and her child were subsequently taken to the Hulimavu Police Station for enquiry and assistance.
Following counselling and preliminary enquiries, the police reunited them with their family members.
Police have not disclosed the reasons behind the woman’s actions, and further enquiries are underway.
