Bengaluru: The body of Meenakshi, 55, who was washed away in a storm water drain during a cloudburst in Nandini Layout area on October 13, was recovered from a drain near Jnanabharathi on Sunday.
Jnanabharathi police said they were informed by locals about a body in the drain and rushed to the spot. They retrieved the body, which was later identified as that of Meenakshi. The body was handed over to her family after postmortem at Victoria Hospital on Monday.
Meenakshi, along with her 22-year-old daughter Pushpa, were swept away on October 13 when an overflowing drain on 18th Main Road in JC Nagar, flooded their house. Pushpa’s body was recovered 36 hours later on October 15 from a storm water drain 12km away from where she had been washed away. The search operation for the mother’s body was, however, called off later.
“The postmortem was conducted and Meenakshi’s body was handed over to her other daughter. Compensation of Rs 5 lakh has been given to the family,” said a BBMP spokesperson.
