A workplace prank involving a bag of oranges, a parked van and a frustrated driver has resurfaced online after a government contractor shared the bizarre story as part of a workplace confessions series.
The contractor, identified only as “Kirk”, recalled working in a government building where his job involved replacing old computers and monitors with new equipment.
Boredom sparks an unusual prank
According to Kirk, one of his colleagues became bored during a quiet workday and decided to entertain himself in an unusual way.
After purchasing a bag of oranges, the colleague began throwing them from an upper-floor office window onto the roof of a van parked below.
Each time an orange landed with a thud, the bewildered driver would jump out of the vehicle and look around for the source of the noise.
Driver grows increasingly frustrated
The prank continued for several minutes. Whenever the driver appeared ready to give up his search, another orange would suddenly hit the van.
Kirk admitted he stayed away from the window but could not stop laughing as he watched the driver’s growing confusion and frustration.
The situation escalated as the van driver became increasingly desperate to figure out who was targeting his vehicle.
Security launches a search
The strange incident eventually caught the attention of security guards from a nearby building.
Guards reportedly rushed through different floors trying to identify where the oranges were coming from. Despite witnessing the repeated impacts and the driver’s reactions, they struggled to locate the culprit.
Because nobody expected someone to be throwing oranges from an office window, the prankster escaped detection.
An unforgettable workplace memory
Looking back, Kirk said the incident taught him an unusual lesson about human behaviour—that people often overlook things they simply do not expect to see.
While no one was caught and no serious consequences followed, the orange-throwing episode remains one of the most memorable stories from his working life.
