Yediyurappa POCSO Case: HC Extends Arrest Protection, Awaits Objections

Bs Yediyurappa

Bengaluru: In a major development, the Karnataka High Court has extended the interim protection from arrest granted to former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa in a case filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The ruling, delivered on Friday by Justice Krishna S Dixit, also allowed additional time for filing objections to two petitions submitted by Yediyurappa.

During the proceedings, the court was notified that law enforcement had submitted the charge sheet in the case just a day prior, on Thursday. This revelation prompted discussions about the continued relevance of the petitions. In response, the State Public Prosecutor-2 assured the court of their intention to file objections to the petitions. Consequently, the hearing has been postponed for a fortnight.

Yediyurappa had approached the court with two separate petitions: one seeking anticipatory bail, and another requesting the quashing of the First Information Report (FIR) registered by the Sadashivanagar police station. The case stems from allegations that on February 2, 2024, Yediyurappa sexually harassed the 17-year-old daughter of a woman who had sought his assistance at his residence.
