A 24-year-old developer from Bengaluru has created an interactive website offering detailed insights into commuter behaviour and travel patterns across Namma Metro, drawing attention from citizens and urban planners alike.
🚇 Data-driven look at Namma Metro usage
The platform, titled Bengaluru Metro at a Glance, was developed by Shraddha Kulkarni and has already garnered over 85,000 views since being shared on X on March 15.
Built using data obtained through a Right to Information (RTI) application from August 2025, the website provides a station-wise breakdown of ridership. It enables users to identify peak travel hours, analyse passenger trends, and better understand how the city’s metro network is utilised.
📊 Key insights and patterns
According to the data, stations such as Benniganahalli, M G Road, and Indiranagar emerged as the busiest in the network. Together, these three stations recorded higher footfall than 25 low-traffic stations combined.
The data also reveals stark contrasts in daily usage. While some stations handle up to 40,000 passengers per day, others see as few as 689 commuters. Additionally, the Yellow Line currently operates at just 37% of the passenger load seen on the Purple Line.
Such findings highlight imbalances in metro usage and offer valuable inputs for transport authorities and policy planners.
♿ Accessibility gaps and urban challenges
The platform also sheds light on accessibility concerns. Only around 15% of Bengaluru’s population lives within walking distance of a metro station, indicating a need for improved last-mile connectivity.
Urban mobility experts believe such data-backed insights can support better infrastructure planning and encourage more efficient public transport usage.
💡 A weekend project with growing impact
Interestingly, Shraddha developed the entire platform as a weekend project, using the AI tool Claude. Despite its modest beginnings, the website has received widespread appreciation online, with users noting its potential to help authorities like BMRCL make informed decisions.
Shraddha has indicated that she plans to update the platform further as more reliable data, particularly on the Yellow Line, becomes available.
