Bengaluru: Here is one more proof for the reality that parents are slowly moving away from the Kannada schools. As many as 271 government schools recorded zero admission in the academic year 2018-19.

Speaking at an event at Kollegal of Chamarajanagar, former primary and secondary education minister N Mahesh revealed that 271 schools across the state didn’t even get single admission this academic year. “Children from the poor families are migrating to the private English medium schools through RTE quota. The state government is spending Rs.700 crores on the RTE fee reimbursement. This resulted in fewer funds for the government school development,” he observed.

“Kannada medium schools have no takers. The data only proves it. We need to introspect in this regard,” he stated.
