In a successful rescue operation, Forest Department officials saved a wild elephant that had become trapped in a railway barricade fence at Mavinahalli, within the Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Gundlupet taluk, Chamarajanagar district. The incident occurred on Sunday when two elephants attempted to cross the railway barricade. One of the elephants, a 45-year-old male, became ensnared in the fence.
Upon receiving the distress call, Maddur Range Forest Officer Puneeth and his team swiftly mobilized to the site. They worked quickly to loosen the screws of the barricade, freeing the trapped elephant within just half an hour. Puneeth confirmed that the elephant was not injured during the ordeal and that the department is continuing to monitor its health to ensure its well-being.
This prompt and effective intervention highlights the Forest Department’s commitment to wildlife protection and rapid response in critical situations. The successful rescue underscores the importance of maintaining and improving wildlife barriers to prevent such incidents in the future.
