Arms cache believed to be of maoists seized in Chikkamagaluru forest

In a significant operation, Chikkamagaluru police seized a cache of arms and ammunition believed to belong to Maoists near Kittaleguli hamlet in Jayapura police station limits. According to SP Vikram Amate, the recovered items include an AK-56 rifle, three .303 rifles, a 12-bore SBBL, a country-made pistol, and 176 rounds of ammunition of various calibers.

The case has been registered under multiple sections of the Arms Act, 1959. The discovery comes shortly after Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah declared the state “Naxal-free” following the surrender of six Maoists earlier this month.

Home Minister G Parameshwara stated that the police are actively searching for more weapons believed to have been abandoned by the surrendered Maoists in forested areas.

The recent recoveries underscore the ongoing vigilance required despite the state’s progress in countering Naxalism.
