Ponnanna, the legal advisor to the Chief Minister, has strongly condemned the BJP and JDS for what he described as misleading statements concerning the Waqf Board‘s recent notices to farmers in Vijayapura. During a press conference held at Vidhana Soudha, he asserted that the opposition’s claims about the Waqf Board attempting to acquire farmers’ land are unfounded and politically motivated.

With by-elections looming in three constituencies, Ponnanna suggested that BJP and JDS leaders are resorting to fear-mongering tactics in an effort to divert attention from their own failures. He accused these parties of trying to sow discord within the community and exploit communal sentiments for electoral gain.

“Claims that the Waqf Board is seizing farmers’ land are baseless,” he stated emphatically. “The BJP and JDS must stop spreading lies. They should face the public directly and address the government’s failures instead of resorting to such falsehoods.”

In response to the allegations, Ponnanna challenged those making claims regarding the purported 15,000 acres of land in question to provide concrete evidence to support their statements. He underscored the importance of substantiating such serious allegations, particularly if they are being made by influential political figures.

He further affirmed that even if ministers make assertions regarding land acquisition, they must be backed by proper documentation. Ponnanna confirmed that this issue would be addressed in the upcoming Cabinet meeting, where clarity would be sought based on records provided by the Deputy Commissioner and revenue officials.

The ongoing political landscape is intensifying as parties prepare for the upcoming by-elections, and accusations of misinformation are becoming increasingly common. Ponnanna’s remarks highlight the contentious atmosphere surrounding the electoral process and underscore the need for accurate information and accountability in political discourse.

As the situation develops, all eyes will be on how these claims are addressed in the Cabinet meeting and what implications they may have for the political dynamics in the region.
