Bhatkal: There is no incentive better than an act of appreciation. Bhatkal police seem to have understood this like no one else.

In a bid to motivate more and more two-wheelers to wear helmets, the Bhatkal police resorted to a unique way of appreciating the ones who abide by the rule.

The men in Khaki went on appreciating the law abiding riders by handing over a rose to them as a token of appreciation.

While the violators are being charged Rs 100, the police team led by CPI Prashanth Nayak has been stopping the helmet worn motorcyclists in order to present them a rose for their co-operation.

Pumped by this act of the police, it is said that the many locals have been rushing to the nearest helmet stores to get a helmet for themselves and get registered in the good books of the police.

Bhatkal alone accommodates about 24,000 motorcycles on road. The riders range from high school students to senior citizens.

As a result, accidents in the part have been a common sight. With the introduction of the new rule, several lives are bound to be saved, it is believed.
