Karwar: In a shocking incident, a family was assaulted after a quarrel over the issue of harvesting arecanut reached a point where a person of the family of the assaulted tried to die by suicide at Bibbanalli in Uchageri area of Yallapura taluk.
Mahabaleshwar Siddhi, son of Narayana Huliya Siddhi of Kasagejaddi, used to sell half of the arecanut harvest in his family’s arecanut farm in Bibbanalli after obtaining permission from his father.
His family members Narayan Siddhi, Ishwar Narayan Siddhi, Shankar Narayan Siddhi, Suresh Narayan Siddhi and Lohith Ishwar Siddhi assaulted Mahabaleshwar, who was harvesting the last crop. They also threatened to kill his wife who came to stop them.
Mahabaleshwar left the harvest halfway and went to his home in Uchageri. Narayan Siddhi’s gang also assaulted Mahabaleshwar Siddhi’s wife, threatened her and allegedly tried to rape her.
Mahabaleshwar Siddhi has lodged a complaint against them as she attempted to die by suicide by consuming poison. A case has been registered at Yellapura Police Station.
