Karwar: The quarterly Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) meeting was held under the Chairmanship of MLA Dinakar Shetty at the Taluk Panchayat Hall in Kumta.
There have been complaints that rental bikes are parked everywhere on Gokarna Main Road causing severe inconvenience to the public and other motorists. He suggested that the Police and Transport Department officials should look into the matter and take appropriate action.
The Assistant Regional Transport Office (ARTO) should personally check whether the bikers are operating with proper documents or not. There are around 4,000 rental bikes in Gokarna alone. Almost everything is registered with Bengaluru Transport. Each bike is being rented for a day by charging Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 2,000 from tourists. Also, permission letter has not been obtained from the Gram Panchayat for parking. They are parked on the road. This is causing a serious problem. He said a joint operation by the Transport and Police Departments should be conducted in Gokarna and necessary action should be taken and a proper reply should be given within 15 days.
