Karwara: Five persons, including a PI and PSI of Honnavara Police station, have been suspended in connection with the suicide of an accused who was brought for questioning on charges of theft.
The deceased, a native of Bihar, was arrested by the police for allegedly for stealing gold on the pretext of polishing. However, Dileep Mandal committed suicide by consuming poison at Honnavara police station.
The police, which had detained two persons from Bihar in the case, had brought them to Honnavara police station for questioning on Saturday. The accused, who had gone to drink water out of thirst, has mixed poison with water and consumed. As soon as the act came to light, they tried to take the accused to a hospital but did not respond to treatment and he died.
The SP and other police officers had visited the Honnavara police station . In this case, PSI Manjunath of Honnavar police station, Crime PSI Manjeshwar Chandavar, Constables Mahaveera, Ramesh and Santhosh have been suspended.
