Karwar: Who doesn’t love to have ornamental fish at their home? Catering to fish lovers , an exhibition ‘Matsya Mela’ (fish exhibition) was held at the Karavali Utsava, an annual fair, here on Saturday, December 8.
Fish such as Oranda Gold Fish, Red Parrot, Paaku, Sea Angel, Albino Oscar, Cichlid and many more were kept on display.
As it was first of its kind, it attracted a huge number of fish lovers with a hobby of ornamental fish breeding.
The Fisheries Department had organised this exhibition with an intention of attracting tourists to the coastal city as fishing is one of the main occupations of the natives.
The fair was held in a Naval yard of the city in which around 60 aquariums with 80 different species of fish were exhibited.
Plain and tropical aquarium, a variety of aquarium stones and many other varieties of products were also on display.
In order to evoke a sense of interest in knowing fish and prawn breeding and farming, different stalls were opened which provided complete information on the same.
“Pick and Speak” competition was organised for the children in order to enhance and test their knowledge of fish. Later prizes were distributed.
