Karwar: BJP candidate from Yellapur-Mundgod assembly constituency Shivaram Hebbar has registered a massive victory with a margin of 31, 406 votes against Congress candidate Bhimanna Naik.
Around 77.53 percent of voting has been recorded in the constituency with the strength of 1.72 lakh voters.
In 17-round-counting, Hebbar has managed to get 80,440 votes, while Bhimanna Naik had secured 49,034 votes. Around 1444 NOTA votes were also observed.
A Chitra from JD(S) managed to secure 1235 votes, Karnataka Rashtra Samithi Party candidate Jaitunabi Jigalur had secured 443 votes, Uttama Prajakiya Party candidate Sunil Kumar with 281 votes and independent candidates Chidanand Harijan and Mahesh Hegde managed to secure 413 and 301 votes, respectively.
The counting process carried out under the supervision of Counting Observer Sridhar Chituri managed to declare the first result among 14 other constituencies.
According to the counting pattern, two out of 10 postal ballot votes were in favour of the BJP. Eight postal ballot votes were disqualified. District polling officer Dr Harishkumar K and polling officer Dr Eshwar Ullagaddi were the in charge of the counting process.
The ecstatic fans of Hebbar had kept a garland made of apple to celebrate the victory. A crane carrying the two quintal was seen in the city, which left onlookers surprised. As many as 1500 apples have been used to make this garland.
