Mangaluru : In a significant turn of events, Ganapathy High School, a long-standing and esteemed educational establishment in the city, has reached a difficult decision to suspend its operations indefinitely. The management has opted to relocate its primary, secondary, and high school facilities to its Kotekar campus starting from the upcoming academic year.

Managed by the Saraswat Education Society, the institution has been a pillar of education for over 150 years. However, faced with declining enrollment and the necessity for academic enhancement, the management has felt compelled to make this solemn decision.

Discussions regarding the closure of the institution have been ongoing since 2017, culminating in the decision to cease operations in the forthcoming academic year. The relocation to the Kotekar campus, situated approximately 15km away from the city, has been deemed the most viable option.

Mahesh L Bondal, secretary of the society, conveyed in a press release that the society established Ganapathy High School in Mangaluru in 1870 with the aim of providing affordable and value-based education to the local community. In 1941, the society expanded its reach by establishing a second campus at Kotekar, with a similar educational vision for the suburbs of Mangaluru. Bondal highlighted the consistent success of both campuses in providing high-quality education, facilitating the entry of many individuals into various fields such as banking, civil services, and the armed forces.

The society has now resolved to transfer its facilities from the GHS Mangaluru campus to the Kotekar campus, which offers a larger campus area and enhanced amenities. Bondal further mentioned that over the past four years, the society has constructed an English medium school with a CBSE syllabus in Kotekar, emphasizing modern science, mathematics, and computer labs. Additionally, plans are underway to develop state-of-the-art indoor and outdoor sports facilities at the Kotekar campus.

Following the closure of the school, the society is actively engaged in facilitating the smooth transition of its primary and secondary sections to the Kotekar campus. Bondal noted that discussions are underway with educational institutions for a seamless transfer of existing students and staff members to either the Kotekar campus or other nearby educational institutions.

The decision marks a significant chapter in the history of Ganapathy High School and reflects the society’s commitment to adaptability and continued provision of quality education to its students.
