Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim directed all the banks, commercial as well as co-operative not to put pressure on farmers to repay loans. He was addressing a meeting held to hear grievances of farmers here at Deputy Commissioner’s office on Wednesday.
DC said that banks should neither issue loan recovery notices nor press civil cases before courts. The government would take a suitable decision in the matter.
Responding to a series of complaints from farmers with regard to continued loan recovery action from banks, he said that they have been forcing the farmers despite a direction not to do such activities by the government and state-level bankers committee.
One farmer alleged that the PCLD bank at Puttur has forced a farmer to pledge his gold with an NBFC to repay the loan and publicly claimed its success in loan recovery.
Senior officials from the district administration were present.
