Dharmasthala: “Practising the rituals of one’s religion and simultaneously respecting the practices, rituals and traditions of other religions is the true message for communal harmony”, said Padmashree Ibrahim Sutar.

Speaking at the 86th Sarva Dharma Sammelana (all religions meet) he said, “Religions can be compared to the rivers and their God to an ocean. Although every religion has its own traditions and practices, its meaning is one.”

“Prophets, sages, and other religious leaders have professed the same, but only if we understand their core teachings can we understand the true meaning of Dharma”, he added.

Explaining who is God, Sutar said, “God doesn’t have a family and he is the ultimate energy. Birds, animals and nature, on the whole, are controlled by that power and that power is none other than God.”

Meanwhile, he explained the meaning of Basavanna, Akkamahadevi, Siddantha Shikhamani and many other spiritual persons’ proses.

Ibrahim Sutar said, “Fighting on the basis of caste and religion is the biggest mistake and that violence must not amalgamate with Dharma.”

“If closely observed terms like Brahmin, Lingayat, Muslim and many others are not caste-based terms but principle-based terms. It is not enough if a person is born as Brahmin. They should also follow the principles of being Brahmin. Only then will they be called a Brahmin. It applies to other religions and castes as well.”

He said, “We are all humans in the perspective of our body structure, Indians in terms of our country and one who loves India, is called a true Indian.”

Ibrahim Sutar completed his talk on a note singing a meaningful song.
