Mangaluru: Mangaluru North MLA Dr. Bharat Shetty Y. said that allowing hijab as part of personal freedom will impede educational equality.
Slamming the Muslim Central Committee President and former MLC K. S. Masood, the MLA he said that if the hijab was allowed today, demands for Burqa in classrooms would be raised. “Where would the education system’s equality be if the hijab is allowed in classrooms in the name of personal liberty?” he asked.
Haji K. S. Masood had criticised MLAs in the twin districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi on Sunday February 6 for trying to derive political gains from the issue.
Bharat Shetty, on the other hand, backed the government’s stance on college uniform dress code and cautioned the Muslim Central Committee not to lead its community astray.
