Moodabidri: A marathon to create awarness about the importance of voting for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, was organised by Alva’s Education Foundation in association with the Dakshina Kannada District Administration, District SWEEP Committee and the Youth Empowerment and Sports Department here on Sunday, March 24 morning, at the Swarajya Maidan.
Speaking on the occasion, Rev Fr Goms, Mulki Church, said that democracy can be maintained only by voting and urged the gathering to vote without fail.
Around 1,350 people, including children, participated in the 18 km-long marathon, which passed through Sri Hanumantha Temple, old police station, Jyothinagar, Kodangallu, Kotebagilu, Jainpete, Alangaru, Kodiadka road, Varthula road and ended at Saavira Kambada Basadi.
Deputy director of Youth Empowerment and Sports Department welcomed the gathering. Assistant Director for the taluk Lily Pais proposed the vote of thanks. Sports Director Praveen Kumar compered the event.
Chief Executive of SWEEP Nodal for Dakshina Kannada district, Dr Selvamani, Commissioner of Police Sandeep Patil, ACP Srinivas Gowda, Tahsildar Sudarshan, Alva’s Education Foundation President Dr M Mohan Alva and SWEEP Secretary Sudakar among many others were present during the event.
