Auction your watch, give away proceedings to Siachen martyrs: Poojary to CM

Mangaluru: Former KPCC president and veteran congressman B Janardhan Poojary has been instigating Chief Minister Siddaramaiah over a chain of issues. Another such incident took place today as Poojary said that the watch worth several lakh that the CM owns doesn’t bring him repute and asked the latter to auction it immediately and give the proceedings to the Siachen martyrs from Karnataka.

Adding to it, Poojary asked the Chief Minister to tender apology to the public for accepting the watch as a “gift”.

Few days ago, Poojary had demanded a cabinet reshuffle telling the Chief Minister to sack inefficient ministers, at the Congress party’s activists’ meeting in Mysuru.

“Respected Chief Minister, you have been saying that the watch was gifted. I completely trust you. But, how could you accept it? Is this not a scar on your spotless political career? It is perfectly alright that you are at fault this time as it is human tendency to make mistakes. But apologize to the public and auction the watch. Give away the proceedings to the three martyrs from Karnataka,” Poojary told the CM via the media at the district party office here.

Poojary said that he has personally been donating Rs 25,000 from his monthly pension of Rs 50,000 to orphanages and other service organisations.

“As per my instruction, the parliament has been routing a cheque worth Rs 25,000 every month to orphanages from my pension money for the past 20 years. If calculated, so far, the amount would come upto Rs 60 lakh,” he said adding that the public’s blessings are more satisfying than materialistic possessions.

It all began with Janata Dal (Secular) leader and former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy alleging in an election rally that Siddaramaiah, who boasts of his socialist credentials and his government’s pro-poor policies, was wearing a watch worth over Rs 50 lakh, which Siddaramaiah dismissed saying that Kumaraswamy was spreading lies. The CM then said that the watch was gifted to him by a friend.
