Bantwal: There are hundreds of people with disabilities in front of our eyes. But regardless of that, there are very few who persevere. Aditya, a boy near Kalladka, was an example of how a physically challenged person can achieve if supported socially, morally by the family and classmates in school and college.

Aditya has secured 21st rank in the Mangalore University BCom examination last year. Unfortunately, this joy did not last long. The 21-year-old died on July 21. But he has left behind an equally persevering story.

Aditya, who had a problem of muscle degeneration, was a persevering person since a young age. He has a vision for the world even as he walked in a wheelchair. So his classmates came to his aid at Mani Balavikasa School, Kalladka Srirama Pre-University and Degree Colleges.

Ganesh Bhat and Usha, a farmer near Surikumeru, and his parents knew that Aditya’s problem of weakening body muscles would not let him live for long. Their first son, Aditya too would have known that. But he didn’t show it.

Aditya, who secured 93.8 per cent marks in the final BCom degree conducted by the Mangalore University for the year 2021 secured a rank, and was carrying on his daily activities since birth with a condition of muscle weakness. Aditya, who had taken Commerce in PUC and studied BCom in graduation, had scored 100 per cent in six semesters in accountancy. In SSLC exam, he had scored 96.4 per cent and had scored 96 per cent in PUC. Speaking on the occasion, he has stated that “I want to write a competitive exam. I am learning online for the same,” he had stated. After that he had gone to appear for the Karnataka Bank examination. However, he returned after he complained of breathlessness and was later admitted to the hospital. He died without responding to the treatment.

Today Aditya is not with us. But his persistence is a lesson not only for those with disabilities, but also for those who have strong limbs.
