Bantwal tahsildar’s failure to curb illegal sand mining irks DC

Bantwal: Miffed with the failure of the Tashildar to curb illegal sand mining in banned areas including Panemangaluru, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim took him to task at on Thursday January 14.

During the DC’s visit to Bantwal taluk office to participate in the development review and public grievances meet, a delegation led by former Zilla Panchayat member Tungappa Bangera, informed the DC that though complaints were lodged in this regard, the Tashildar has not been initiating action. Journalists too joined Bangera on this issue.

Irked by the same, the DC trained guns at tahsildar Purandar Hegde asking him if he too was involved in the scam to which Hegde replied that he would look into the matter in a day’s time.

The DC’s anger knew no limits when the staff at the tahsildar office could not find the files pertaining to sanctioning of land for various projects. As many as 40 files were missing, it is learnt. The DC said that he would visit the office next week, warning the staff action if things are not set right by then.

Govt employees with BPL cards

The DC ordered the tahsildar, Taluk Panchayat CEO and the officials of the Food and Civil Supplies Department to finish off probe relating to the 2406 applications requesting BPL cards and start distributing them at the earliest.

As many as 41 government servants, mainly teachers also had been issued BPL cards. To this, officials informed the DC that all of them had been cancelled and a fine of Rs 40,000 had been collected from defaulters.
