Baroda Kisan Pakhwada is a platform to engage with the Indian farming community & create awareness of various products and schemes offered by the Bank as well as promote initiatives launched by the Government

Mangaluru: Bank of Baroda (Bank), one of India’s leading public sector banks, today announced that the Bank is conducting a number of farmer engagement events and is aiming to connect with 27,000 farmers in Mangaluru, as a part of the 5th Edition of the Baroda Kisan Pakhwada, an annual farmer outreach programme. During the 2-week agri festival, the Bank’s network of semi-urban and rural branches in Mangaluru that predominantly serve the agri customer segment are actively participating in ‘Baroda Kisan Pakhwada’.

Baroda Kisan Pakhwada to cover 27000 Farmers in Mangaluru‘Baroda Kisan Pakhwada’ has been designed to help the Bank boost engagement with the farming community and create awareness about various agri products, schemes & delivery channels offered by Bank of Baroda and initiatives taken by the Government for the benefit of farmers.

Bank of Baroda in Mangaluru is conducting various programmes such as loan camps, farmer felicitations, technical sessions, animal health checkups etc. 

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Gopalakrishna R, Deputy Zonal Head – Mangaluru Zone said, “Agriculture is an important sector in Mangaluru, generating employment and providing livelihoods to many people. In Mangaluru, the Bank of Baroda has a strong farmer-customer base with long-standing relationships that go back many years. The Bank plays a key role in meeting the banking and financing needs of the local agriculture sector. In this year’s ‘Baroda Kisan Pakhwada’, over 200 branches from Mangaluru Zone are conducting a number of programmes to engage with and reach the maximum number of customers. Our aim is to reach out to the farming community and provide details on the various Agri loans and banking services available as well as the various Agri initiatives launched by the Government. This will enable our farmer customers to get the right assistance when required, helping them to grow their income.”

In Mangaluru, the Bank of Baroda has a network of 384 branches and 950 Bank Mitra outlets. Bank of Baroda’s Advances to the Agri sector in Mangaluru have grown to over Rs 7,800 crore as on Sept 30, 2022. The Bank also has six Financial Literacy Centres in Mangaluru and one RSETI located at Haveri for imparting various skill development training to rural youth enabling them to take up self-employment activities. 

Bank of Baroda Mangalore Zone organized a Kisan Pakhwada program on Nov 28, 2022. Shri Sanjeev Dhobal, CGM, BCC, Bank of Baroda, Sri R Gopalakrishna, Deputy Zonal Head, Mangaluru Zone, Sri. Vinay Gupta, DGM-Network, Dr. Shivakumar Magada, Dean, Fisheries College, Mangaluru and Dr. Ramesha TJ, Sr. Scientists and Head, KVK Head, Mangaluru were the Guests of honour. About 500 farmers from Mangaluru, Udupi and Uttara Kannada District participated in the program. Various Stalls were set up such as agriculture equipment, KVK, SHG products and other successful entrepreneurs and the stalls were inaugurated by Shri Sanjeev Dhobal, CGM, Bank of Baroda, during his address he spoke about the adoption of new technologies and various digital apps for farmers with various benefits such as applying loans digitally and accessing information about local input dealers, and farm produce prices of local market. Bank of Baroda through this program tried to understand the ground reality about the farming sector, requirements of farming sectors, changes in the sector by contacting farmers. 

Through outreach programmes such as farmer meetings, choupals, kisan melas etc, the Bank will provide detailed information about various agricultural lending products like the Baroda Kisan Credit Card, tractor loan, gold loan, financing to Self Help Groups (SHGs)/ Joint Liability Groups (JLGs), credit for agriculture allied activities etc and offers available to farmers. The Bank has also introduced digital banking services specifically for the agri segment to enable them to apply for agriculture loans conveniently.

The event will also promote various Government Agri initiatives such as lending schemes under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Package viz. Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF), Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF), Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme (PM-FME), etc.
