Mangaluru: MLC and Dakshina Kannada district Congress president, Harish Kumar, addressed a press conference in the city on Wednesday, June 2, and said that the BJP activists of meddling with the vaccination drive.
Kumar recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying before assuming power that once in power, he will put all the corrupt people in jail. “However, given the increasing number of corrupt persons joining the BJP, it is apparent that the BJP has turned into a prison for all the corrupt people,” he said.
He also charged the BJP of politicising the vaccination programme. He also said that 50 vaccination vials out of every hundred received in the district end up at the home of MLA Vedavyasa Kamath. This is intended for distribution among BJP activists and people close to the MLA, he said.
“Vaccines are being distributed in a corrupt environment. At the vaccination centre, BJP workers manage the show. We demand that the vaccination system in vaccination centres be streamlined by deploying officials for this purpose. The officials must act immediately on this issue,” he demanded.
J R Lobo, a former MLA, claimed that the BJP is pointing fingers at the Congress to hide its own failures. He said that the government had failed in its vaccine initiatives. He reminded the BJP that economic activity and political administration are only feasible if people survive, and that the priority should be on saving people.
