Mangaluru: All India Congress Committee (AICC) spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill has termed the BJP as the ‘Chief Architect’ of India’s economic disaster.

Addressing the mediapersons here on Tuesday, November 5 Shergill said, “The BJP government has turned India’s ‘Demographic dividend’ into a ‘Demographic disaster.’ BJP government focused solely on ‘fixing’ the opposition rather than ‘fixing’ the broken economy. After the BJP government was formed at the centre on May 30, 2019, the party is either in celebration mode or in campaign mode. As  it is refusing to enter ‘work mode’  India’s economy lies in shambles today. Closing business, evaporating jobs, sinking economy, shrinking savings, spiralling bank frauds, flying fraudsters reflect the sad state of affairs of Indian economy under the BJP government.”

Informing about the slow GDP growth Shergill said, “India’s GDP growth is slowest in the last six years and it has dropped to the level of the seventh-largest economy from being the fifth largest in the world. New private investments have hit a 16 year low and household savings are at a 20 year low. India’s overall savings rate has declined to 30 per cent from 34.6 per cent. But, BJP leaders says that the country is becoming prosperous, ignoring the facts.”

Meanwhile, Shergill demanded union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to resign immediately for economic slowdown of the country.

Welcoming the union government’s decision to not join the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), Shergill said that it is the success of farmers, dairy producers, fishermen, small and medium businessmen.

Former ministers B Ramanath Rai, U T Khader, Abhayachandra Jain, district Congress president Hareesh Kumar, former MLA Moideen Bava, district youth Congress president Mithun Rai among others were present.
