Mangaluru: The Tipu Jayanti programme at Netravathi auditorium in the Zilla Panchayat building, took a dramatic turn with BJP leader Franklin Monteiro and 30 others being detained by the police, on Saturday, November 10.
Monteiro staged a solo protest and held a black flag to mark his anger against the state government’s adamancy in organising the event which has been opposed by many.
Though there was tight security in front of the ZP office, Monteiro came alone and tried to barge into the venue. However, police prevented him from entering the venue and detained him. Meanwhile, he shouted slogans against Tipu Sultan and the state government for holding a Tipu Jayanti programme.
On the other hand, as many as 30 activists attached to the Bajrang Dal were also detained when they tried to create chaos at the venue.
