Mangaluru: Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP from Dakshina Kannada and President of BJP Karnataka, earlier today announced his resignation from the post, taking moral responsibility for the BJP’s defeat in the Karnataka assembly election that concluded a month back resulted in the Congress to take over the state government.
“I have said I take moral responsibility for the election defeat….I have informed party high command orally and in writing about my resignation. Our national team will think about it and make a decision,” Nalin Kateel said. “My two-year term as state president of the BJP has come to an end. I have resigned on this account too,” Kateel further added.
Kateel said that he submitted resignation on the same day as that of the assembly elections result were out. However, he did not make it public as per instructions from the high command of the party. However, the rage of BJP workers also was high asking Kateel to resign. Though his term ended before the elections, he was asked to continue in wake of the Karnataka state assembly elections.
Hours after announcing resignation from the position Kateel comes up with some confusing remarks when asked about V Somanna being an aspirant for new state president, Kateel said “I have taken the responsibility for the loss in the state assembly elections. I have informed the party’s senior leaders about the reason behind the loss. I have completed four years as the state BJP president, I have been state president of the party for four years now. The party leaders will take a decision on change of leadership at an appropriate time.”
“I did not state that I had resigned from the post of State President. My reply to the media question has been misquoted and the news is being spread that I have resigned.” Kateel added.
