CAA protest violence: M’luru police arrests 12 persons

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru police arrested a total of 12 persons in connection with the violent protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) which occurred in the city on December 19.

The arrested have been identified as Mohammed Azar (22) of Manjanady, Thanzil (20) of Thokkottu, Aryan (30) of Kallamajalu, BC Road, Nazim (24) of Maripalla, Bantwal, Ashik (21) of Shirva, Udupi, Anwar Hussain (23) of Bajpe, Mohammed Iqbal (27) of Adyar, Kannur, Abdul Hafeez (20) of Panjimogaru, Mohammed Fayaz (27) of Kavoor, Khalandar Basha (30) of Kavoor, Nasiruddin (32) of Kunjatbail and Mohammed Farooq (32) of Adyar,  Kannur. 

Commissioner of Police Dr P S Harsha informed that 12 people have been arrested and more people are being identified by viewing video footage, CCTV footage and photographs.

It can be noted that two persons- Jaleel Kanduka (43) and Nousheen (22) had died in the police firing and both of them have been booked for rioting. Though the government had announced Rs 10 lakh as ex-gratia for both victims, later it announced that it would be withheld if the deceased are found to be guilty of violence.
