Mangaluru: In the case of break-failure, a bus named Subhalaxmi crashed into 5 bikes and an autorickshaw on July 25.
The accident that took place during the peak hour traffic near Chefs at Kadri-Nanthoor junction killed one person and injured around four people, said an on-looker.
People gathered around the place panicked. Speaking to newskarnataka.com, one of them said that a lady jumped out of the bus in order to save herself, while it is also said that a female student from a nearby college who was in the rickshaw was seriously injured due to impact.
Dr Sharmila whose car was also hit was traveling with her 3-year-old infant. Luckily, she didn’t not suffer injuries, but the scared mother said, “It is the fault of the bus”.
Manjunath, who was driving an Innova car behind the bus said, “The cause was a break-failure and it is not the fault of the bus driver. I was behind the car and I could hear the passengers screaming, thus I slowed down the car and stayed behind.”
“Before I knew it, the bus hit three bikes in front and went ahead and again near the turning hit two bikes and a rickshaw. All the while the bus driver kept screaming and horning to save as many people as possible” added Manjunath.
Speaking to newskarnataka.com, Traffic police inspector Vinod Kumar, who was on duty said, “It is not the fault of the bus driver but of course a case will be registered on the travel company. The bus driver tried to save more than 25 lives. He worked smart, didn’t get nervous and directed the bus to a steep place where the bus could be brought under control”, the policeman mentioned.
While two victims were taken to AJ Hospital, one victim was taken to Tejasvini Hospital and two were rushed to the City Hospital. The condition of the victims is yet to known.
A case has been registered in Kadri traffic police (west).
