Mangaluru: High drama ensued at Kadri Manjunatheshwara Temple on Friday, December 23, following receipt of a letter from Muzrai Department raising objection over the use of loudspeaker at high decibels in the temple vicinity.
Reportedly, the Muzrai dept, acting on an objection raised by an apartment dweller here over the use of loudspeakers, had shot a letter to the temple authorities instructing them to reduce the volume of the loudspeakers.
The orders, however was strongly condemned by the Vishwa Hindu Parishat (VHP), which in a letter handed over to the temple’s executive officer on December 23 questioned the double standards of the government for not raising objections to use of loudspeakers at mosques.
It further mentioned that the orders were against Hindu sentiments and warned of protests if it were to be implemented.
Several people were seen gathered at the temple here.
Notably, each year the Kadri temple, ahead of its temple fair has been holding Yakshagana, other cultural programmes during which loudspeakers are used.
