Commotion in Uppinangady: Sec 144 imposed

Mangaluru: The Police Department has imposed Section 144 under Criminal Procedure Code in Uppinangady of Dakshina Kannada District as Popular Front of India (PFI) activists hold protests demanding release of their leaders. However, as situation spiralled out if control around 9 pm on Tuesday December 14, the police had to resort lathi-charge to disperse crowd, and then Sec 144 had to be imposed.

Atoor Tangal, who led the protestors also got beaten up.

It can be recalled here that the three leaders of PFI were taken into custody by the police for questioning, and demanding their release PFI activists held a protest in front of the police station. Following this, the police let one of the leaders. However, protestors demanded to release the other two. Moreover, things escalated when the protestors decided to offer namaz in front of the police station at night to which police objected, leading to situation going out of control.
