Speaking in Udupi on Wednesday, March 20, Congress leader Jayaprakash Hegde underscored the significance of prioritizing local issues in the upcoming election campaign. He stated his commitment to seeking votes based on his own name rather than relying on the names of other leaders.
Focus on Unfinished Road Projects
Highlighting the importance of addressing pending road projects, Hegde emphasized the need to prioritize the welfare of constituents. He noted that despite numerous road projects being sanctioned during his tenure as a Lok Sabha member alongside central road transport minister Oscar Fernandes, many remain unfinished.
Call for Tangible Results Over Complacency
Expressing his belief that relying solely on leaders’ names for votes leads to complacency and hinders progress, Hegde stressed the importance of voting for candidates who deliver tangible results. He urged voters to consider candidates’ track records and accomplishments rather than mere simplicity.
Secular Society and Voter Opinions
Hegde asserted that not all votes from specific communities, such as Bunt or Billawa, would necessarily go to him or his opponent. He emphasized the secular nature of society and stated that the opinions of the people hold paramount importance.
Campaign Strategy and Organizational Efforts
Hegde announced that the party would announce the candidature following an internal meeting to distribute responsibilities. He emphasized the need for organizational efforts at the grassroots level, with party workers assigned specific roles. Additionally, he mentioned plans to develop a constituency manifesto.
Campaign Without Criticism of Opponents
Throughout his political career, Hegde stated that he refrained from criticizing opponents during elections and advocated for votes based on his own merits. He expressed confidence that voters are familiar with his track record and emphasized the importance of substantive action over mere introductions.
