Mangaluru: Amid Mangaluru Dasara, the temple management committee of Kudroli Gokarnanath temple has planned to felicitate about 10 sports persons who have secured medals in international events including Indian sprinter M R Poovamma, on October 18 at around 6 PM.
Addressing the reporters at the auditorium of the Kudroli temple on Wednesday, October 17, the temple management committee treasurer Padmaraj R said, “Sportspersons who secured medals in the international events including Indian sprinter M R Poovamma, weightlifters Pradeep Acharya, Gururaj Poojary, Jagadish Kavu among others will be felicitated. Former union minister and Temple Renovation Committee Chairman B Janardhana Poojary will felicitate the achievers with gold medals. Meanwhile, the temple will disburse around 1000 `Gokarnanatha Health Cards` to the families of Below Poverty Line (BPL) through which cardholders would get around 25 percent concession in the total bill amount when they receive treatment as outpatients in two private hospitals A J Hospital and Unity Hospital. There is a plan to disburse around 10,000 health cards before the inaugural of the next Mangaluru Dasara”, he said.
Dasara procession duration to be cut down to 12 hours
Informing about the Mangaluru Dasara procession, Padmaraj said, “Usually the procession will be of 16 hours. But, there is a plan to cut the duration of the procession from 16 hours to 12 hours this year. As per the plan, the procession will start at around 4 PM on October 19 and the immersion of idols is expected to complete at around 4 AM on October 20. Around 70 tableaux will take part in the procession”, he said.
Temple management committee members Sairam, Harikrishna Bantwal and Leelaksha Karkera among others were present.
