DK district observes R-Day with all pomp and fervour

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district administration celebrated the 69th Republic Day at Nehru Maidan on Friday, January 26 in the presence of district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai.

Addressing the gathering, after unfurling the national flag, Rai said that the state government has waived off farm loans in the state in order to support the farmers and agricultural activities.

“The government has waived off Rs 296.65 crore of 65,518 farmers in the state. To support animal husbandry and milk production, the state government has purchased 30.3 crore liter milk from the farmers. Subsidy amount of over Rs 126 crores has been deposited to the accounts of 1,52,334 farmers in district.

Government has sanctioned 10 Indira Canteens in the district which are going to be set up soon. The government has also contributed to the health care field with upgradaing two government hospitals and by constructing 33 new buildings to the existing ones. The 3D planetarium at Pilikula, being built at a cost of Rs 35.69 crore will be materialized very soon,” he said

Further, he mentioned that nine new hostels and three new residential schools have been constructed for the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes students in the district at a cost of Rs 392.64 Lakhs.

Under the PWD department, 13.36 kiolometer district roads and 312.53 district main roads and 372 kilometer state roads have been developed. Government has constructed 33 small bridges in the district. Government has spent Rs 44,297.09 lakhs for the construction of road and maintenance.

To strengthen basic infrastructure in rural areas, government has developed 1620.26 kilometer roads in rural areas. In rural areas 12 small bridges have been constructed. Government has spent 37,676.32 lakhs for the development of roads and construction of bridges government .

During this occassion the ‘Sarvotham Seva Awards’ were confered on P N Revathi, Gokuldas Nayak, Gurumurthy A, N Shivaprakash, Sheshappa Bambila and Laxman Poojary for their service in their respective provocation.
