Mangaluru: The Hijab row has become a hot topic that has drawn international attention creating tension among people across various districts of Karnataka. Amidst this, fake videos over Hijab has also spread like a wildfire among social media users.
Recently, a video was widely shared on social media platforms claiming that Karnataka Police have arrested Muslims protesting the Hijab ban in educational institutions, with 40 per cent of them being boys in women’s attire.
Upon further verification, it was found that the incident happened on August 18, 2020 in Telangana, not Karnataka, as claimed in the viral video. According to the video, the man was arrested while attempting to import whiskey into Andhra Pradesh from Telangana. He had disguised himself by wearing a burqa.
The incident happened in Panchalingala checkpost in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool District.
Karnataka Police took to Twitter to respond to the viral video by confirming the facts, and in turn Karnataka Director General and Inspector General of Police Praveen Sood retweeted the same.
“Video claiming Karnataka police arresting burqa clad agitators and 40 percent of them being boys in women’s attire: True facts,” tweeted Karnataka Police.
