Mangaluru: To commemorate the 82nd birth anniversary of its founder Late Jayalakshmi Alva, Sridevi Nrithya Kendra, Mangaluru will confer the ‘Natyakala Tapaswi’ award on the legendary dance couple Padma Bhushan VP Dhananjayan and Shantha Dhananjayan on Sunday, October 25 at SDM College Auditorium.
Director of the Kendra, Araty Shetty of the Nrithya Kendra informed the media that Vice Chancellor of Mangaluru University Prof. K Byrappa will confer the award. Kateel Sri Lakshmi Narayana Asranna will bless the event. Chairman of Alva’s Foundation Dr Mohan Alva will be the chief guest and Assistant Director of the Kannada and Culture Department Chandrahas Rai will be the guest of honour.
Shetty mentioned that as a tribute to Jayalakshmi Alva, her senior disciples from Mumbai and Mangaluru will be presenting dance ballet ‘Ashta Nayika’ concept developed by Shreelekha Mehta choreographed by her daughter and granddaughter Dr Araty Shetty and Sathvika Shetty. Special performances will be staged by few other students.
