Mangaluru: Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI) achieved a new milestone on November 1, with the launch of the “Father Muller Salvadore Monteiro Rural Health Training Centre” at Bajpe at 11.30 AM. This centre, established to provide free healthcare services to the residents of the Bajpe area, has been built at the place that was visited by Pope John Paul II on February 6, 1986.
The centre was inaugurated by Salvadore Monteiro-Bajpe and his wife Elizabeth Monteiro, the donors of the land, and the plaques were unveiled by former MLA J R Lobo. The first floor of the centre was inaugurated by MLA Br Bharath Shetty.
The centre was then blessed by Bishop of Mangaluru Diocese, Rev Dr Peter Paul Saldanha.
Welcoming the gathering, Director of FMCI, Fr Richard Coelho said, “Father Muller Charitable Institutions as achieved a new milestone today, after 138 years of providing quality and comprehensive health care to the people. The Rural Health Training Centre at Bajpe will provide free health care services to the residents of the area. The centre will also function as a medical training hub for medical students.”
Addressing the gathering, district in-charge minister U T Khader said, “This healthcare centre is a gift to Bajpe’s residents as they no longer have to travel to the city for treatment. If we manage our diet and lifestyle properly, we do not need to go to hospitals, but id we have to visit a hospital, then Fr Muller Hospital is the place to go for quality service and treatment.” He then added that he would happily provide his service in case the hospital needed his help.
Other eminent guests also spoke during the occasion, expressing their admiration and gratitude to FMCI for the centre.
To celebrate the launch of this new centre, a free medical check-up camp was conducted at the centre between 9 AM and 3 PM for the locals.
