Mangaluru: Thousands of faithful congregated to the churches on Thursday evening to welcome the festive season of Christmas with a Christmas Eve Mass.
All the major Churches in the city were embellished with glow lights and the smiling devotees flocking the Churches only added to the glorious festive mood.
The Mass at Rosario Cathedral was celebrated by bishop of Mangaluru diocese Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, with Monsignor Denis Moras Prabhu, Fr Rocky Fernandes, Fr J B Crasta and Fr Paul Sebastian D’Souza.
The Bishop said that despite Jesus being son of god, he lived among common people and became a servant. This is a greatest lesson that one learns from life of Jesus Christ, a God himself who chose to be a man.
He questioned the faithful as to how many who celebrate Christmas choose to lead a simple and humble life like Jesus. It may be recalled that to uphold the spirit of Christmas, the Bishop has declared that the diocese will be building 25 houses for the need in the flood-battered Chennai.
Across the district aesthetically made cribs and X-mas trees were seen embellished at churches and at homes. Christmas delicacies- the ‘Kuswar’ were made and special christmas cakes were baked at almost every Christian households as preparation to the festival.
