Few social evil forces obliterate our culture: DC

Mangaluru: District Administration Tourism department and University College observed ‘World Tourism Day’ at Kala Bhavan, here on Tuesday September 29.

Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim, speaking at the event said, “Few social evil forces have tried to obliterate the rich culture and heritage of our district, we should not let this happen as it may affect the tourism of the region.”

“We need to give emphasis on the tourism sector in the district as this has a lot of scope and in the coming months, the district administration plans to take up several measures”, he added.  

He also informed that a ‘Tourist Investment Meeting’ will be held, with several tourism representatives, in order to make the region a tourist favorable place.

District-in-charge Minister Ramanatha Rai addressing the gathering, said that the district has a lot of potential to become a tourism hub and needs proper attention and planning. He stressed on Tourism Management and said, “Tourism Management is very important – however, it is essential for the district to work towards a full-fledged plan and then adhere to it in order for the growth to happen.”

He also recommended initiatives such as Nature Camps, Temple Tourism and others.  

During the occasion, a Dakshina Kannada Map was released, mentioning the tourist facilities the district has to offer. Soon a Mangaluru Map will also be released, it was said.

Earlier, Mangaluru range forest officer Clifford Lobo welcomed the gathering.
