Mangaluru: The Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology of Kasturiba Medical College conducted the maiden two-day “Indo-French International Congress” here on November 23.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the event, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil said, “We are living in a legal rational-society by giving importance to rationality after drafting our own laws, regulations and constitution. Law enforcement is a major area. The concept of criminal investigation and the idea of establishing the truth is a very important domain for law enforcement.”
He also said that in general, forensic implies the convergence of law and science to establish truth through the scientific data.
Forensic technology should be helpful to rescue the innocents, urged the DC while saying, “Personally I feel that every year many people get convicted for no reason as there is no way of proving their innocence. People are languishing in prisons and jails, because our scientific fraternity is not able to establish the truth or the means to prove their innocence are not there.”
Professor Daniel Malicier, Director of Institute of Legal Medicine at University Claude Bernard Lyon also spoke on the occasion.
Dr. V Surendra Shetty, Pro Vice Chancellor of KMC, Dr. Poornima Baliga, PRO Vice Chancellor, Venkatraya Prabhu, Dean of KMC, Dr. B Suresh Shetty, HoD of Forensic Medicine, KMC and others were present.
