Fit India Freedom Run 2.0, 100 Days Soakpit Campaign held in Mangaluru on Oct 2

Mangaluru: Nehru Yuva Kendra, Mangaluru in association with District Administration Dakshina Kannada, Zilla Panchayat, DK, Mangaluru City Corporation, Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, National Service Scheme and National Cadet Corps, and District Youth Federation of DK jointly organised Fit India Freedom Run 2.0 on  October 2.

The programme was held as part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’, commemorating 75 years of Independence. It was held at Mangala Stadium from 7.00 am. The run was flagged off from Mangala Stadium and proceed towards Ballalbhag, PVS Circle, Navabharath Circle, KS Rao Road, Wenlock, Hampankatta and culminated at Town Hall.

The run was inaugurated by Minister of Fisheries Port and Inland Water Transport, S. Angara S. It was flagged off by MLA Nalin Kumar Kateel. The programme was presided by MLA Vedavyas Kamath. Guest of honour for the event was Prof P. Subramanya Yadapadithaya, Vice Chancellor of Mangaluru University.

Chief Guest for the event includes Premananda Shetty, Mayor of MCC, Col. A. K. Sharma, Group Commander NCC HQ, B. M. Prasad, Commandant 7th Battalion, KSRP, DK, Dr. Pradeep Kumar D’Souza, Assistant Director, Youth Empowerment and Sports Office, Praveen B. Nayak, Deputy Registrar Co- Operative Societies, DK, Murugesh S, Senior Manager (HR and Admninstration), KIOCL Ltd. , Dr Nagarathna K.A. , Programme Co-ordinator NSS, Managaluru University, Dr Ashwini Shetty, Programme co-ordinator , NSS Yenepoya, Ivan Seuqeira, Managing Director, Nforce Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd and Suresh Rai Sudimullu, President of District Youth Federation.

Minister of Backward Classes Welfare Kota Srinivas Poojari undertook Shramdaan on the occasion.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rajendra K.V, MCC Commissioner Akshy Sridhar and Chief Executive officer of Zilla Panchayat Dr. Kumar was also present.

Meanwhile, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Drinking Water and Sanitation Department, Zilla Panchayat, Swachh Bharat Mission and Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) Scheme to mark Gandhi Jayanti and Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav jointly held programmes, Satyagrah se Swachagrah and Swachhata hi Seva, and under MGNREGA Scheme, 100 Days of Soakpit Campaign at Netravathi Hall, Zilla Panchayat here.

Speaking on this occasion Fisheries Minister S. Angara said, It is the responsibility of everyone to maintain the cleanliness of the surrounding, the state, and even the nation.

There is a need for a better environment for everyone to be healthy. The government promotes cleanliness which requires public cooperation, he opined.

Before this, the Satyagrah Se Swachhagrah Rath Yatra was launched.

As part of the “Swacchata Hi Seva” programme, the service of sanitation workers were recognised, honoured.

BJP State President Nalin Kumar Kateel, Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath, and Mangaluru Mayor Premanand Shetty among others were present.
