Mangaluru: After being in existence for 138 years, Father Muller Charitable Institutions will be achieving a new milestone on November 1, when it launches the “Father Muller Salvadore Monteiro Rural Health Training Centre” at Bajpe. This centre will strive to provide free healthcare services to the residents of the Bajpe area.

On the occasion, a free medical health check-up camp is organised at the centre from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The entire programme will be initiated by Rev. Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director, FMCI.

By considering the essential medical requirements of Bajpe residents and ensuring that quality and timely healthcare reaches the general public, the hospital has established a rural health training centre in the 50 cents land donated by Salvadore Monteiro. Former Bishop of Mangalore Diocese, Most Rev. Dr Aloysius Paul D’ Souza, laid the foundation stone for the Rural Health Training Centre on 18th December 2017. The centre will be inaugurated on November 1 at 11.30 AM by our benefactors, Salvadore Monteiro and family, Bajpe, and Blessed by Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore Diocese and President, FMCI.

U. T. Khader, Minister for Housing and Urban Development and D.K. district in-charge, will unveil the plaque.

Dr Y. Bharat Shetty, MLA, Mangaluru, North Constituency will be inaugurating the first floor of the centre.

Informing about the service at the new centre, Father Muller Medical College Hospital Dean Dr J P Alva said, “The hospital has already surveyed around 430 families residing in the surrounding areas of Bajpe and collected their opinion about the need for a hospital which offers round-the-clock service. Hence, a qualified gynaecologist and a paediatrician will be available to provide round-the-clock service. A plan has also been made to conduct medical camps once every week at seven Panchayaths like Kolambe, Permude, Jokatte, Kandavara, Adyapady, Mooduperara and Paduperara.”

FMCI Director Rev. Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho informed that the main intention of the hospital is to provide service to the rural people. “As a majority of the rural people are not able to spend a large amount of money on their health and they don’t have easy access to hospitals, we have planned to provide medical treatment at the rural health training centre in Bajpe. People should utilise this facility properly,” he said.

The centre will be catering to the needs of the general public by providing excellent quality health care services and will also function as a medical training hub, for medical students.
