Mangaluru: Five persons having already been remanded to judicial custody in the double-murder that took place in the jail premises, four more suspects have been arrested, Mangaluru City Police Commissioner S Murugan informed.

The arrested are Mahesh Kumar (35), Latheesh (23), Kamalaksha Poojary (42) and Sathish Acharya (42).

Addressing a press meet at the Commissioner’s office on Monday, November 16, Murugan said that daggers and knives used in the murders were recovered. He said that they were designed by Sathish. Kamalaksha handed over the weapons to Mahesh, who in-turn threw them inside the jail premises on October 31. Latheesh rode the motorcycle to the jail vicinity from where Mahesh could easily throw the weapons in. The jail inmates involved in the murders, buried them and used them on November 2.

“It is to be noted that Isubu and Ganesh were murdered by different groups belonging to the same gang. Role of every individual is being probed. The role of jail staff is also being investigated. So far, none of the staff is found guilty,” he said.
Murugan said that the accused have been revealing more important aspects and expressed hope that the case will be resolved soon.

Section 144 to continue in Surathkal and Ullal

As Surathkal and Ullal are identified as the most communally sensitive areas in Mangaluru, Section 144 will be imposed from 6 pm – 6 am until November 18, Murugan said.

He urged the public to support the police in preventing crime. He asked them to own responsibilities and report and untoward incidents in their locality so that necessary action could be taken on time.
