Beltangady: Two individuals sustained serious injuries after an altercation broke out between two gangs, which involved the use of sharp weapons, late last night on December 4. The altercation occured at Gerukatte in the taluk’s Kaliya village.
A gang of five members, who had just finished playing cricket, was waiting at the bus stand when a gang of eight members, bearing swords, sabres and other weapons attacked them causing the people still in the area, to run for cover.
Among those injured were Tasleem, Haris, Siyab and Hameed from Gerukatte along with two others. The injuries of four of the victims were serious in nature and they had to be rushed to a private hospital in Mangaluru.
It is alleged that the gang that attacked was that of Yakub and his men including, Haider Adam Safi, Abubakker, Rizwan, Irfan, Rauf, Umarabba and four others. The attack is said to be the result of a minor dispute between the gangs.
A case has been registered with the police here.
