In a heartening development, the government of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has taken swift action to assist a 33-year-old woman in Mangaluru who is battling a life-threatening disease she has endured since childhood.
Chandini GD, a resident of Gandhinagara in Sullia, approximately 90km from Mangaluru, suffers from anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction. Her condition, diagnosed as hyper IgE-mediated mast cell activation syndrome by AIG Hospitals in Hyderabad, manifests through symptoms such as persistent diarrhea, rashes, vomiting, seizures, and palpitations. Chandini has undergone nearly 20 surgeries and has been on a ventilator nearly 15 times in her lifetime.
In response to a plea for assistance from Chandini and coverage of her plight in the Times of India (TOI), the government has acted swiftly. The Dakshina Kannada District Health Officer, Dr. Thimmaiah HR, and District Medical Officer, Dr. Jacintha D’Souza, facilitated the procurement of necessary medicines for Chandini through the Wenlock District Hospital.
Dr. Vaishnavi K, Officer on Special Duty to the Chief Minister for Public Grievances, confirmed that the medicines were issued to Chandini through the coordinated efforts of the government and healthcare officials.
Chandini’s husband, Purushothaman C, a farmer, has already expended nearly Rs 75 lakh on her treatment. However, with the government’s assistance and ongoing support from the health department, Chandini’s journey toward recovery is being facilitated, and arrangements have been made to ensure she receives all necessary medications until she is completely well.
