Udupi : Tension was visible on the faces of the autorickshaw drivers who marched towards the Manipal police station and staged a flash protest on June 25, Tuesday. The protest was staged to oppose what they termed harassment of autorickshaw drivers on pretext of investigating into the case of gang rape of a student of Manipal University by three autorickshaw bound assailants.
The agitating autorickshaw drivers while asserting that they would co-operate with the police department in the investigation, at the same time said they do not agree with the police action of dragging them to the stations during night time for enquiry. They said such an act of the police instilled fear in the minds of their families while also making public view the drivers with an eye of suspicion.
The striking autorickshaw men also demanded immediate arrest of the rapists.
