Mangaluru: Earmarking of minimum five acres of land in every taluk to provide housing site to landless families, equipping every household to install solar panels, recharging groundwater, extending Bahu Gram drinking water project to all taluks, undertaking concrete measures on waste management, measures to cultivate better fodder for go-shaalas, recruitment to vacant positions in various departments and making Dakshina Kannada a kerosene free district are among the prominent assurances made by the district Congress in its manifesto, which was released by Dakshina Kannada district In-Charge Minister B Ramanath Rai at the Congress office here on Monday February 15.

Addressing the media, Rai said that the State government has fulfilled about 80-85 per cent of the assurances made by the Congress party in three years of its tenure. He said that the Siddaramaiah led government will live by all the other assurances made in the next two years.

He said that the party expects a direct fight with the BJP in most of the constituencies and brushed aside tough competition from parties such as the SDPI and independent candidates. Rai expressed hope of a comprehensive victory in the polls as according to him, the BJP has done no good for the public during its tenure in the Zilla Panchayat.

Asked if the verbal fight between two senior party leaders Veerappa Moily and Janardhan Poojary would affect the polls, he refused to comment saying that he does not want to bother about the veterans as they have seen more politics than him.

Regarding Siddaramaiah’s wristwatch controversy, Rai said that it was his personal matter and it was cheap on the part of Kumarawamy and others to pry into an individual’s private space. He said that people have seen Siddaramaiah’s pro-public initiatives and hence would support the Congress in the ZP and TP elections too as they would want good governance.
